The framework:
- As I apply to my own life when confronted with an issue I want to solve, I go to: I.P.S.S. That is, Intention, Plan, Systems and Support.
- I walked Nefateria through this in 20 minutes today and here’s what she came up with to make her weight loss journey successful.
Intention
- We started with Nefateria’s intention. As I have said many times before, your intention is more powerful than a wish. It’s more powerful than a notion. An intention draws a firm line and declares what you desire and sets things in motion to make it happen for you.
Plan
- Nefateria already had a good idea of 5 things that she wanted to be in her plan towards a healthier lifestyle and making healthier choices. We refined them a bit and made them more specific.
- A specific plan will work wonders because it leaves no room for indecision. You’ll know whether you did it or not with a specific plan.
Systems
- This is the step that many of us miss. To create healthy habits (or any other habits, for that matter), you’ll need to set up systems.
- Why systems? Systems will make you “do the thing” when you don’t have the motivation to do it.
- We came up with a few systems for Nefateria including, a framework for her schedule that will enable her to always have time for her morning workout and setting up days for her specific workouts and a YouTube playlist to easily select her workout.
Support
- Think you don’t need support and you can go it alone? Think again.
- We all deserve and need to be fully supported, especially as black women. We are chronically undersupported and it is part of my mission to make it stop.
- In my session with Nefateria, we talked through a few ways for her to gain support, including finding an accountability partner, engaging her partner and setting up her daily prayer practice to support her healthy living habits.
