Hey there!  This week’s video is part 3 of Travel Like a Carnivalista in Wassi Wednesdays with Esha.  And today I talked about 5 Compelling Reasons Why Every Professional Black Woman Should Prioritize Caribbean Getaways.

In this video, I talked about 2 of these reasons.  For the full list of all 5 reasons, scroll after the video.  Enjoy!

Here are some more reasons black women should consider Caribbean getaways:

  1. Cultural Connection, Heritage Exploration and Empowerment through History.  The Caribbean offers a rich tapestry of African heritage and culture.  As enslaved and free African people, we came to the Caribbean with culture and traditions in tow.  If you get off the resort, visiting the Caribbean can be an enriching experience, allowing you to connect with your roots and explore the significant African influences in music, dance, cuisine, and traditions.  The Caribbean is also home to many historical sites that tell the stories of resilience and resistance, such as the Maroon communities in Jamaica.  Here’s a Viator tour you can check out: click here.
  2. Support for Black-Owned Businesses.  This reason is very near and dear to my heart.  Traveling to the Caribbean allows you to support black-owned businesses, from hotels and restaurants to tour operators and the very talented artisans.  Why is this important?  Money is power and supporting our people with our dollars is a powerful way to give back and promote sustainability in our communities.  If you’d like a guide that helps you find black-owned businesses for your Caribbean getaways, Caribbean Green Book can help.  Check out their IG profile here.

    3. Culinary Adventures.  The Caribbean’s diverse cuisine, influenced by African, Indigenous, European, and Asian flavors, always offers a unique culinary journey.  Several dishes across the islands scream of their African origin like cou cou in Barbados, pelau in Trinidad and mofongo in Puerto Rico.  Enjoying the local food not only will make your tummy happy but also supports local businesses and economies.

    4. Rejuvenation and Wellness.   Ahhhh, the serene beaches, a tropical climate and luxurious resorts in the Caribbean make it the perfect destination for relaxation and self-care.  Perhaps you thought this would be reason #1 right?  The natural beauty and tranquility of the islands can help you recharge and de-stress from the demands of professional life.  I personally love travel to the Caribbean for the inspiration it provides to me in droves.  There’s nothing like crystal-clear waters and lush greenery to inspire your creativity.  Whether you’re writing, painting, or simply reflecting, the natural beauty of the islands have always sparked new ideas and perspectives for me.

    5. Affordable Luxury and Accessibility.  Compared to many other international destinations, the Caribbean easily offers a range of affordable luxury options. Many islands are easily accessible from major cities in the United States via direct flights, making it super easy convenient to make a quick escape or an extended stay without making you broke!
